Synopsis:
Post 9/11, Caroline Fontenot has been happily married for five years to Chandler, a sweet country boy who stole her heart in college. At least that is what she thought until the past came back to haunt them. The country is at war and all she can think about is the love that never was. Once again the ghost of Aidan Patrick haunts her dreams and now, her reality.
My Thoughts:
This was a
very enjoyable light, contemporary read. I liked how the book focuses
on learning to let go of the past to be able to move forward. Caroline has
always been living with the ghost of her ex-boyfriend and first love
Aidan, but she has always been able to keep it from taking over her completely
until the day she receives a letter from Aidan's brother with some horrible
news and the ghosts of her past start to consume every second of her day and
start to interfere with her marriage.
I really enjoyed this read! I really liked how
it went back and forward from the present to future, it really helped
understand why Caroline was having such a hard time letting go of Aidan;
I also really likes that there was letters and diary entries it would
pull the reader in and make the book that more enjoyable. Val hit me with a
twist I wasn't expecting that made me tear up; this book made me
laugh, cry and want to punch a certain person in the face. I do have to say
that Chandler is an amazing guy; every man should read this book and
take some notes on how to be an amazing and understanding husband. Overall I
really enjoyed this book and for being Val's debut novel it was a great story!
I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a light contemporary read.
