Synopsis:

To seventeen-year-old Ava, wild woodcats, hungry stragglers, and simple-minded townsfolk are the evils she’s grown accustomed to. But when Ethan, an unusual man with eyes of smoke and fire opal, enters her world she quickly understands that there are worse things out there than drunken men and carnivorous forest creatures. She’s a specialised liar and a hell of a fighter, but against a group of animalistic men called Berserkers she struggles to survive the encounter as the desperate swing of a dagger is all it takes to change her life for good.
Half-dead and hunted by the Berserker’s leader when he forms a monstrous obsession with her, Ava escapes his pursuit in an unfamiliar land full of impossible creatures, unlikely allies, and the man she doesn’t know whether to kiss or kill.
But after dreadful news of her missing brother surfaces, Ava becomes more involved in the centuries-long war and begins to unravel the reasons behind her relentless nightmares, discovering truths long-buried in a violent history of love, loss and betrayal.

My Thoughts:

I was sent an Ecopy by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This novel sunk its claws into me with the first sentence and didn’t let me go until the very end. I absolutely loved this book, it had a couple of flaws, but I easily got past them because the story line was phenomenal! I felt like I could not devour it fast enough. Trapped in Silver is a paranormal fantasy novel, it brings demons, vampires and several other creatures that go bump in the night.

Our novel is told in somewhat dual perspective by somewhat I mean, it is mostly told from Ava’s, but we do get a couple of chapters from Ethan’s. Ava is such a strong female character, I really loved her sarcasm and boldness! I also really liked how flawed the author made her, she wasn’t the best fighter, but she held her own and kicked ass when she could; it made her seem more human and I really liked that. The only thing that bothered me a bit about her was how careless she could be at moments with her safety and otters. Ethan, what can I say about him, he is the arse I fell in love with, and can’t get enough of; to be completely honestly, I really wish we would have gotten more of him! I’m really intrigued by his backstory and just him in general. The main side characters were very likable and some were well let’s just say they’re not my favorite.

The world Sowden created was so well done, I could easily transport myself there and fight alongside Ava, Ethan, and the others! She made a dangerous place sound so beautiful and made me overlook all the dangers so much so that I would not mind living there; especially if I had those amazing characters by my side cough, cough Ethan. The twists the author added in there were good, but a bit predictable, I saw them coming, but that didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the book. The love interest is there, but is a slow burn and I really enjoyed that, insta-love isn’t for me so, I like when an author allows characters to get to know each other before they confess their feelings. The ending blew my mind, I saw it coming, and it still blew me away! I’m so excited for the next installment in the series. If you are looking for a good October read this is it!! It has the monsters and the creepy factor is there.

The Deadbringer

 Book Review

The Deadbringer (The Ellderet Series, #1)

Title: The Deadbringer

Rating:
Date Published: May, 2016

Genre: Dark Fantasy
Page Count: 298

Stalk the Author: WebsiteTwitterInstagramFB

Synopsis:

In the aftermath of the Purging, the Deadbringers are no more. The Ascendancy has positioned itself as the land’s dominant power by exploiting the people’s fear of the Deadbringers’ innate abilities to summon souls and reanimate the dead. Yet its hold is not complete, for in the North the Bastion stands in the way of the Ascendancy and its iron-willed elite soldiers, the Sanctifiers.

But, somehow, a single Deadbringer has managed to survive. Kira Vidal, a boy of fifteen, has remained hidden, living peacefully with his uncle in the northern city of Opulancae under the Bastion’s protection. But it seems their luck is at an end when rumors begin to spread, and a strange man shows up at their door, seeking the forbidden services of a Deadbringer.

Aware of the dangers should word of his nature reach the Ascendancy, Kira makes a promise to himself to protect his beloved uncle at all costs, even if it means pursuing the limits of his powers … and learning painful truths.

My Thoughts:

I was sent a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book had me hooked from chapter one! I loved the creepy factor and the way our main character Kira can bring the dead back to life. The author did so much character building in this book and I loved it, we get to know Kira and the other characters so well throughout the book; I also really liked that she gave us information on the characters slowly throughout the chapters and didn't just dump a lot of info all at once that we would later forget. Markoff did an amazing job at world building that at times I felt like I was there with the character myself. I really enjoyed that this book was told from multiple POV and I loved every single one of them, but I really became intrigued with one character in particular and that was E'Sinea! Gah, I just couldn't get enough of him. Markoff hit me with some twists at the end that I just did not see coming and that left me begging for more! I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel and see where the author will take us! The only reason I didn't give this novel five stars was because towards the middle it got a little slow, but it quickly picked right up again and Markoff gave me the gory scenes I was looking for. If you have yet to pick this novel, I highly recommend it! It's the perfect read for this month or if you're just in the mood for a dark fantasy.

Synopsis:

Long live Solaris.

One bloodthirsty ruler has been overthrown by another, casting the shadow of death over the Solaris Empire. Vhalla Yarl stands upon the stage of fate, prepared to do battle one final time. Fragile alliances will be tested and new bonds will be formed as the world is reshaped. She fights as the champion of peace, but when the night is darkest will she be able to pay the price of a new dawn?

My Thoughts:

I was sent a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was so nervous going into this book since is the last book in the Air Awakens series and I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters that I have grown to love or the world that Elise has created, but now that I'm done reading Crystal Crowned I have to say that Elise ended this series magnificently; I'm sad that I won’t read any more books with the amazing characters, but I'm more than satisfied with how the series came to an end.

I loved seeing Vhalla go from a shy library apprentice to the fearless Windwalker, her character development even in this book was very well written and I'm definitely going to miss her. Another character that I loved to see grow and become a great leader was Aldrik; gosh I’m going to miss that man! I loved every single little thing about him and absolutely adored him in this book, he went from the feared Fire Lord to the True Emperor his people needed. I have one more character that I absolutely fell in love with and need to mention and that will be Jax, that man kept me laughing when everything seemed lost and I loved his character for that, I also really liked that we go to know more about him and I wouldn't mind getting a novella in his perspective.

This book was so different from the previous ones it was brutal and hit me in the feels over and over again, but I didn’t mind one single bit. I loved the way Elise described Victor’s magic and how she made me loathe him even more than I already did. The action in this book was just what I wanted and nothing less and that epilogue was absolute perfection!!! Elise nailed it! I’m so sad to say goodbye to this amazing series, I’m going to miss all the characters and they will always have a special place in my heart. If you have yet to pick this series up I HIGHLY recommend it! It's amazing and each book just gets better and better. Thank you so much Elise! You have become one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to read more of your work.

The Star-Touched Queen

Book Review!

The Star-Touched Queen

Title: The Star-Touched Queen
Author: Roshani Chokshi
Rating:
Date Published: April 26, 2016
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Genre: Fantasy YA
Page Count: 342
Stalk the Author: WebsiteTwitter

Synopsis:

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.

My Thoughts:

This book was PHENOMENAL!! Just the writing alone blew me away, I'm still in awe of the authors beautiful writing and in shock that this is her debut novel. I want, no I need more of this beautiful story and this magnificent characters; I refuse to believe that it is a
standalone.

Maya has been born with a cursed horoscope; a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, because of this she is feared by everyone in the Kingdom even by her father the Raja himself. When her father decides to arrange a wedding for Maya for political convenience her world comes crashing down, but none the less Maya becomes Queen of Akaran and the wife of mysterious Amar.

Gosh, I absolutely adored this book, I just couldn't get enough; the world building was so beautifully done and I really enjoyed how the author brought mythology and Indian folklore together, she did it so brilliantly. Maya is such a strong character and goes through a lot of development as the book progresses, with that said, I did find her a little naive and irritating through the middle of the book I just wanted to go in there and shake her around until she came into her senses. Amar, is one of the reasons I didn't give this book five stars and not because I didn't like him, but because I wanted so much more of him and his backstory and I feel the author didn't seem to give enough of him; I absolutely loved Amar the way he treated Maya had me swooning all over the place, I really hope we get a novella about him. This book hit me with a twist towards the very end that I did not see coming and that made me sit in the edge of my seat until the very end. Overall this book in my opinion is a masterpiece that everyone should pick up!

Water's Wrath

Book Review

Water's Wrath (Air Awakens #4)

Title: Water's Wrath
Author: Elise Kova
Rating:
Release Date: April 26, 2016
Publisher: Silver Wing Press
Page Count: 350
Genre: YA Fantasy

Synopsis:

Librarian turned sorcerer. Sorcerer turned hero. Hero turned puppet.

The Solaris Empire found victory in the North and, at the cost of her heart and her innocence, Vhalla Yarl has earned her freedom. But the true fight is only beginning as the secret forces that have been lurking in the shadows, tugging at the strings of Vhalla’s fate, finally come to light. Nowhere is safe, and Vhalla must tread carefully or else she’ll fall into the waiting arms of her greatest foe. Or former lover.

My Thoughts:

I was sent an ARC by the author in exchange for and honest review.

WOW! Just WOW! I thought the last book had broken me, this one destroyed me! This series is going to kill me! I'm so terrified to see what’s coming in book five, but at the same time I can't wait to have it in my hands and devour it in one sitting just like I did with this one. Elise has quickly become one of my favorite authors and to be completely honest I would read her grocery list. I was a mess since page one! Just reading those first few sentences took me back to the ending in Earth's End and to a certain Crowned Prince who was become my greatest obsession, I can’t get enough of him or the other characters in this series. Vhalla's strength and courage will never stop amazing me, she has overcome so many things that I don't see anyone else coming out from, with the same strength she has. I was so glad to get more of Jax, he is such an amazing character and I love him to pieces he makes me laugh so much and I thank him for it. Elise hit me with a twist that has left me numb and I don't know how will overcome; I have to say this is the book that has hurt me the most, but I don't mind I LOVED every second of it! I LOVE this series and I want to thank my good friend Cassandra a million times for introducing me to it! All I have left to say is that if you haven’t picked this series up PLEASE, Please do it won’t disappoint.

-SandraTheBookWorm
My reaction after finishing Water's Wrath. I think Loki's face is on point.
