Interview with the Author

           When do you write and how often?  

I write either in the morning 7-9 am or from 9 pm-12 midnight. I’m a night owl. I’m most productive at night. There are times when I write all day long when the mood hits me. But, as I rule, I write two to three hours a day. Any more than that and you risk burnout.

     Can you tell us about your current work in progress? 

Sandy’s Story is the third installment of the Ditch Lane Diaries, coming this fall. Sandy has a secret that no one else knows except her guardian angel, Baldric the Warrior. The storyline delves into the growing relationship between Sandy, the clairvoyant or soul reader and Baldric the Warrior and the rules of Heaven that prevent them from being together.

  What inspires you to write?

     What’s your favorite item on your writing desk?

 What’s your favorite genre and why? 

Paranormal Romance, Fantasy with metaphysical and visionary elements. I also like writing about Time Travel.

Any advice for those who want to write or new authors? 

I still consider myself as a newbie. It is important to cultivate friendships with other authors. I have met so many wonderful authors. I know a lot more now than I did last July when my debut novel, Ruby’s Choice went live. I made the decision to self-publish. It’s important to research. Join writer’s groups. Attending writing workshops. Write daily and never give up. See your story through until the end.  Whether it’s a napkin or my IPhone, I have pages and pages of notes. Do not allow any negative comments or reviews to stop you. I love my books and I want readers to love them. However, I know everyone will not like my books. In the end, it’s my book and I love them!

      What do you do when you are not writing? 

What do you do for fun? I love spending time with my family and friends. Whether its going concerts, restaurants or football games. Laughter is the key to happiness. I try to live by my mom’s motto, it’s better to laugh than cry.

What else would you like to share with your readers?

 Life passes by in an instant. Be happy in life. Don’t let the darkness and negativity get you down. My new tagline line that I sign in my books, “May love light the way.” Corny maybe, but I like corn!

Advice From the Author for Aspiring Writers

Advice for those who want to write or new authors

 It is important to cultivate friendships with other authors. They have been where you are now. Write daily and never give up. See your story through until the end. Anytime I get an idea I write it down. Whether it’s a napkin or my IPhone. I have thousands of pages of notes. I came by this quote, the writer is unknown, but it has stuck with me “Get it written, then get it right!”

If you are going to self-publish find a good editor, proofreader and formatter. Hire a professional to design your cover.  

Editor: A good editor will make or break your book. You don’t have to stay with an editor or a publisher if you are uncomfortable with their feedback or lack of feedback. Read the fine print of any contract. If your gut is telling you something isn’t right, trust it and move on. Writer’s Beware is a site which offers insights on individuals and companies that do not have good reputations. Review this site!

You need to find an editor that works in your genre. It’s important to relate well with your editor. If it doesn’t work or your stressing about it, look for someone else.

Beta Readers: During your second pass find Beta Readers They’re a godsend. Listen to their comments. If you have two or three beta’s saying the same thing, then it is a good rule of thumb to revisit your manuscript for a tweak.

Proofreader and formatter: You may want to find a good proofreader after your manuscript has finished its last pass. By the time you make it through your third pass, your brain has a tendency to auto correct mistakes. My brain auto corrects in any pass….And then lastly, find a good formatter. You want your manuscript to be polished. An editor, proofreader and formatter will help you accomplish your goals.

Bookcover and marketing. Hire a professional. If you are not a designer, then don’t design your book. If you want to be taken serious, then have a seriously professional book cover, website and even social media ads.

Once you’re book is published, don’t rest on your laurels. Start writing again even if you only write scenes. Remember, not everyone will like what you write, at the end of the day, it is your book. As long as you love it and you’re happy, then someone out there will love it too.

My Thoughts:

Annabelle hasn't seen her boyfriend for a while and she has been missing him like crazy! One night while she is drifting into sleep she sees him thinking it's just a dream she sleeps with him, but the next morning she finds out that it wasn't and a dream and it wasn't her Henry. Now Annabelle has accidentally bonded herself to a demon that wants her and only her. She is going to have to fight for her freedom with the help of her mom which she just found out is a witch.

This book was very enjoyable I liked the concept and founded very creepy. I liked the paranormal aspect in this I had never heard about an incubus so, I really liked that I could learn about a new thing that goes bump in the night. Ashley's writing is amazing she really got some jumps out of me. With all that said I did have one little problem with it, I felt that it moved very quickly and at times I felt a little lost there was so much happening is such a short amount of time. Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to people who are looking for a quick, scary read.

My Thoughts: 

First I can't wait to get my hands on this book because I love anything horror, secondly as I was reading the Synopsis I saw that Micheline is a descendent of Van Helsing, and who doesn't love Van Helsing. MY THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK:

There could have not been a better ending to the series, it left me wanting more and not wanting the series to end. In this book so many secrets are revealed, friends are lost. this book made me laugh, cry and pissed me off at times, does anyone else think that Cassandra always had it out for Simon? it seems to me that in all six books the poor guy never caught a break. Jace and Clary can finally let loose and love each other without out holding back and i loved it I was waiting for them to just give into there love all the series. One thing that bugged me about the book was Sebastian I wish he would have been able to change and stayed with his family, it seems like when all his evil was taken away he was a good guy, but we cant all get what we want. Overall the book was very very good it met all my expectations. This series was AMAZING so sad to see it end. If you have not picked up this series I recommend you do. You wont regret it.

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5)

WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?
In this book Clary is horrified when she finds out that demon Lilith's magic has tied Jace and her brother Sebastian together and now Jace has become a servant of evil. The clave is out to destroy Sebastian but there is no way of hurting Sebastian without hurting Jace. While Alec, Magnus, Simon and Isabelle try to make bargain with the Seelie, Demons and the Iron sisters,  Clary takes it up on herself to find a solution to bring her Jace back and kill her Brother.



MY TOUGHTS ON THE BOOK:
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the way Jace seemed to be so much more comfortable with his and Clary's relationship. I also liked how I learn more about Sebastian, his past and how he feels about his family, at a certain point in the book I really was starting to like Sebastian, yes I know CRAZY! this book is just great I think is the best one in the series. City of Fallen Angels had really put me off from the series because it seemed to just drag on, but as soon is I got into reading City of Lost Souls it sucked me back in I loved it!

WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?
Clary is back in New York she has started training to become a shadowhunter, everything seems to be going fine she can finally call Jace her boyfriend and her mother and Luke are finally getting married.  But someone starts murdering Shadowhunters and placing them in the downworlders areas trying to create tension between the Shadowhumters and the Downworlders. Simon has become homeless since his mother found out he is a vampire and to make things worse someone has been trying to kill him. Jace starts withdrawing himself from Clary and he wont let her know why so  Clary starts to investigate and finds out she has set in motion a series of events that might lead her to loose everything including the love of her life Jace.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT TEH BOOK:
This book was sooooooo frustrating I really did think that Cassandra could have ended her series strong with her last book "City Of Glass." With that said Jace and Clary pissed me off so much in this book they are so stubborn and there was times I wanted to throw the book at the wall with them two it seems like they are never going to have a happy ending. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because I enjoyed the demons and the relationships of the other characters mostly Magnus and Alec I love them as a couple.  I also feel like Cassandra liked to pick on poor Simon he is always in danger or someone is trying to kill him. I like the series but this book was my least favorite.

WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?

Clary finally knows where she can get the cure for her moms magic induced comma. She has to travel to the City of Glass Alicante, but Jace has a different plan he thinks Clary going to Alicante is a bad idea, that the clave will only want to use her for her newly found power. Clary goes into Alicante illegally which might mean death for her, to make matters worse she finds out Jace doesn't want her there and Simon has been thrown into jail and the new inquisitor is very suspicious of a vampire that can withstand the sun. Clary finds and ally in Sebastian a very mysterious Shadowhunter that she seems to have a very strange connection to. The downworlders come to the conclusion that the only way to defeat Valentine and get the mortal instruments back is for the Shadowhunters to fight along side of them. Shadowhunters have always fought their battles alone can they swallow their pride and fight with their mortal enemies to defeat Valentine. 

WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE BOOK:

This book was sooooo good! Like I have said before this series just seems to get better and better. I loved the way Cassandra takes you deeper into what Valentine did to Jace and why Clarys mother kept her out of the Shadowhunter world for so long. Also many secrets and truths are revealed in this book, it just made me want to keep reading and made me so happy for the characters that I have grown to love! Also there is so much action in this book you can't go one chapter without some sort of battle going on lol. In overall this book is amazing if you have not picked up this series I highly recommend you do! :)

WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT?
In the "City of Ashes" the second book in the series "The Mortal Instruments" Clary gets sucked in more into the magic world of demons , shadowhunters, and downworlders, but what Clary wants the most is to live a normal life with now more than just a friend Simon. But how can she really go back to normal after finding out she is a demon fighting shadowhunter, her mom is a magically induced coma, and the only way to help her get better is to go looking for her crazy power hungry father Valentine. To make things worse someone has been killing young downworlders and the second mortal instrument gets stolen. The Inquisitor arrives to investigate all the weird things going on in New York and she sets her eyes right on Jace after all he is Valentines son. 

WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT THE BOOK:
This book was just AMAZING, Cassandra Clare really took you deeper into the new world Clary was introduced to, with more downworlders and more shadowhunters. She also tell us more about the childhood Jace had with Valentine. Its full of action and surprises I didn't expect. If you gave up on this book because of the ending city of bones had, don't believe continuing this series is well worth it the books just keep getting better and better.

WHAT IS THE BOOK ABOUT?
In the first book on the series The Mortal Instruments "City of Bones" By: Cassandra Clare, a young girl named Clary is out with her friends for her birthday in a very known club in New York, when she finally gets in she notices a group of very good looking teenagers about to kill what she believes to be an ordinary boy. When her friend Simon gets back with the security guard she realized that she is the only one that can see the two boys Jace, Alec and the girl that lured the boy that was murdered in Isabelle. Since that night Clarys ordinary life was changed forever she is introduces to a new world full of magic and mythical creatures that she has been kept from since she was a little girl.


WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE BOOK:
I just finished reading City of Bones  and thought I should talk about it while it was still fresh on my mind. I have mixed feelings about this book I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. Lets start with the things I liked first I loved the world that Cassandra created who wouldn’t want to live in a world full of shadowhunters (half angel half human), werewolves, vampires, fairies, warlocks and well a world with magic,  also I loved that you couldn’t go one chapter without getting action it kept you interested and wanting more. what I didn’t like, all the character seemed to have the same personalities they all seemed to be cocky and full of themselves, also I wasn’t very fond of the ending can we just say we should have taken it another direction it kind of pissed me off to be honest. I also felt like Cassandra was trying to explain too many things at the same time, you were just starting to understand one thing when she jumped in explaining something else.  This book is a fun read if you are into dark fantasy, angels, warlocks, werewolves, and crazy love triangles I definitely recommend you to read this book. I’m going to continue with the series  because I'm  very interested where the story is going to go.
