Synopsis:

“You’re going to die”

Shelley Marano is an ordinary, unexceptional high school senior…until the day she receives a cryptic text message, and her world tilts sideways. Now she’s in real danger, although she doesn’t know who would want her dead, or why. As she starts to unravel the mystery, the truth about who she really is proves to be more frightening than she ever imagined. With the lives of her and her friends hanging in the balance, one thing is certain:

Nothing will ever be the same.

Packed with suspense, What Lies Within is a page-turning, plot-driven rollercoaster ride that fans of Stephen King, James Patterson and Rick Yancey will be sure to enjoy.

My Thoughts:

I was sent a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Shelley has a normal life, it's her senior year of high school, she has a par-time job and is waiting on her letter of acceptance for the college she has been dreaming to go to. But that all changes with one text message that say "You're going to die". Shelley doesn't know who would send her that or why anyone would want to hurt her.

This book had me in the edge of my seat from the first page to the last! Morris writing is phenomenal it was so unique and I swear at moments it was like I was watching a movie as I read. The characters were amazing, Shelley is such a strong lead and I loved her development trough out the book. I think Shelley's best friend Winston was my favorite character his sarcastic sense of humor and the way he protected and loved Shelley no matter what the outcome was beautiful, who doesn't want a Winston in their life. The ending hit me like a ton of bricks I wasn't expecting it at all, I really wished the outcome was different, but I felt that the ending worked well with the entire novel. I can't wait to read more books by James his writing is superb. If you're looking for a good thriller that will have you in the edge of your seat from beginning to end look no further this is it.

Synopsis:

On the surface, Jenna Landsen has it all…

She’s smart, beautiful, confident, and married to Camden Landsen, who happens to be drop dead sexy and just as successful. But after five long years, all the success in the world hasn’t brought the romantic spark back into her marriage. Jenna fears it never will.

When life gives you lemons, open a bakery and name it Vi’s…

Violet Streiff made the exact mistake her mother warned against—she fell in love with Liam Coffman, a charming finance major. When he left her heartbroken to further his career, Violet drowned her sorrows by opening a bakery, and now relies on Bob, her eighteen-pound cat, for warmth at night instead of a sexy man.

To find love, sometimes you first have to discover yourself…

When Jenna’s job offers an extended trip to New York, she packs her bags and takes a two-month vacation from life. The chance of her marriage surviving looks grim, until the surprise of a lifetime throws a wrench in her plans to stay in the Big Apple for good.

You can bend the rules—but sooner or later they’ll break…

When Violet meets a gloomy but totally drool-worthy guy named Camden in her shop, she’s sure her luck has changed. There’s no denying the chemistry, but he’s married, and that’s a major problem. Violet isn’t a homewrecker. Still, staying away from Camden proves nearly impossible. That is, until his wife comes home.

Two women.
Two men.
Double the chance to find love in the most
unexpected places—or double the chance for disaster.

My Thoughts:

The author was very kind and sent me a copy of her novel in exchange for an honest review.

Jenna has been married for five years, but lately she has been feeling like the spark is missing and like her marriage is coming to an end. So, when she is headed on a business trip to New York she decides that it's the perfect time to take a break from her marriage to try to find herself and figure out where her marriage went wrong. Violet has just opened her own coffee shop with the help of her boyfriend Liam, but when he decides he wants to pursue his own career he leaves her heartbroken and dedicating all her time to her coffee shop, that is until Camden walks in, she feels an immediate attraction to the man who seems to be just as lonely as her. They begin a friendship, but the more time they spend together the more Violet realizes that Camden is waking up feeling in her that she thought would never feel again. There is only one problem Camden is a married man and Violet is no homewrecker.

This novel had my emotions all over the place one minute I was crying and the next I was laughing, I fell head over heels for this book! Lindsay executed the way monotony can be a problem in marriage so well in this novel.  I fell in love with each single character! At the beginning of the book I thought I was going to hate Jenna, but I just couldn't, as I kept reading I completely understood where she was coming from even though I did want to shake some common sense into her once in a while. Violet I loved her instantly especially her sense of humor and her best friend had me laughing out loud. Camden at the end of the day I just wanted what was best for him. I think he was the character I felt the most for, he was happy with the life he had with Jenna and didn't understand why she would do that to their marriage. This book was very beautifully written and I was not expecting any of the twists the author hit me with. I recommend this book to anyone in look for a good contemporary or just a good novel.

Beginnings

A faint glow was the first hint.
Far below, from moon silvered forest, it slowly climbed the dark-shadowed trail, against dark-faced bluff. No brighter, but slowly visible, until it was a faintly glowing cage. Then passing, with interior luminescence impenetrable, it continued a slow rise up through dark. High, and higher, slowly heading up, towards the bright-rimmed ridgetop.
As subtly more was.
With cage silvering, wrapped by her vague arms, emerging beneath the starry sky, a full moon shining low above far-distant mountains encircling the forest vale.
And substantial, she became.
Goldenslaughter.
A red-lipped smile upon her bonewhite face, with her long blue-black hair, and black gown, streaming behind, she seemed to glide out, the cage held by her wrapped arms, towards an arcing greystone bridge spanning an abyssal chasm.
“Beautiful one,” she crooned.
From the cage’s interior luminescence, a soft chirrup.
She crossed the arcing bridge upwards, against night sky, then back downwards, to silvered plain, and headed out upon it. Distant ahead, above low hills, waited a dark castle, like a black shadow against the vista of distant encircling mountains, with the full moon shining just above them.
Flowing silent, through silence. Moving smoothly, through stillness.
Gently rising, the way.
She wound up through the low hills, bearing the faintly glowing cage among their silvered shadows. Ahead, slowly rising against moon and mountains, were dark towers, and keeps, above dark, weathered walls.
Caer Nocht, the Dark Castle.
It was old, stark, and sprawling. A dark bastion spread across the high end of the bluff, under shining moonlight, reflecting nothing back.
She came the last distance.
Across Caer Nocht’s darkly gleaming moat, within its shadowed gatehouse, a stirring.
Metal slithered. Wood groaned.
The drawbridge slowly descended, eventually landing before her with a soft thump.
She continued across it, then entered the shadows of the gatehouse, with moonlight shining down ahead upon a gleaming suit of black armor standing in the center of an empty outer courtyard.
And she called, “faithful one.”
The Wraith Knight kneeled, joints creaking.
“I finally caught it!” she crowed, and twirled around the kneeling Knight with a laugh, her long blue-black hair and black gown flying after, before she headed off.
The Wraith Knight rose, joints creaking, and strode after her, clanking.
She passed through the shadowed inner gate, then crossed a moonlit inner ward, and entered back into the shadows before the looming Great Keep, atop which flutter a pure black banner. “Open!”
The double-doors swung wide, to darker shadows.
She glided inside the Great Keep, a line of witchfyre torches, held in sconces placed evenly along the dark walls, bursting into sudden life to begin casting eerie green illumination across the empty Feasting Hall.
Clanking outside, crossing the inner ward.
She flowed down the old, hard-bitten gold carpet covering the central aisle of the Feasting Hall, passing by empty tables, beyond which were heavy drapes covered tall windows along the outward facing wall.
“Goldenslaughter, Queen of Night.” An old gnome in black and purple livery stepped out from a table before her, kneeling to present up a covered silver tray. “Refreshments?”
“I have work yet to do, Feasal!” she sang out, her wrapped arms hugging the faintly glowing cage tighter as she skipped, with black gown flouncing, around him kneeling.
Feasal turned to watch her go, muttering.
Clanking, the Wraith Knight entered the hall.
Feasal glanced behind himself at its approach, then leapt back up and scurried from sight.
The Wraith Knight strode down the old, hard-bitten gold carpet, clanking, as ahead, Goldenslaughter disappeared into a dark passage behind the dais.
Every witchfyre torch suddenly snuffed out.
An outline of motion finished crossing the dark Feasting Hall, the sight of which was leavened only by dull moonlight edging the heavy window curtains.
Then clanks receded.
Stillness.
In the corners of the hall, shadows darkened. And, fading to echoes, the receding clanks eventually softened away.
Silence.
In the corners of the hall, dark shadows stirred.

Synopsis:

Sterling Wayfairer has one goal for his senior year: make his mark. He’s been slipping into the background his whole high school career—distracted by his mother’s mental health, unsettled by the vivid dreams that haunt him at night, and overshadowed by the athletic accomplishments of his popular best friends. But this year is going to be different. He’s going to break a few rules, have some fun, and maybe even work up the nerve to ask his crush out on a date.

But things don’t go exactly as planned. Students are disappearing, Sterling starts losing time, and it all seems to center around Tetra, a girl no one else seems to notice but him. When he finally tracks her down for answers, they aren’t what he expects: He and Tetra hail from a world called Noba, and they’re being hunted by a Naga, a malevolent shapeshifter that’s marked them for destruction.

Tetra and Sterling have distinct abilities that can help them fight back, but their power depends heavily on the strength of their bond, a connection that transcends friendship, transcends romance. Years apart have left their bond weak. Jumpstarting it will require Sterling to open his heart and his mind and put his full trust in the mysterious Tetra.

If he doesn’t, neither of them will survive.

My Thoughts:

The authors were kind enough to provide me with a copy of their book in exchange for an honest review.

Sterling is entering his senior year of high school and is determined to leave a mark, but when he meets Tetra the new girl at school she turns his world upside down. She tells him that he is not from the world Geo and that they both come from a whole different world called Noba and that they are being hunted by a shapeshifter called a Naga.

I really enjoyed this novel, I found the characters very easy to relate to and very down to earth. I loved that this was written in dual perspective, it lets the reader understand both the main characters so much better! Tetra was such a funny and lovable character, I found her very intriguing since she comes from a different world she is trying to adjust to the this new worlds slang and their way of life; one being that in Noba being female or male doesn't really matter everyone is treated equally; so, when Tetra moves in with Sterling she finds it very confusing that he's uncomfortable with her staying in his room; this also led to some very funny and uncomfortable situations for Sterling. Sterling was such an amazing character, he is so caring and very easy to relate to and I loved his sarcasm; he was such a well written character. I really liked how the authors focused on both Sterling and Tetra’s character development in this book, I really liked reading how they're getting to know each other, as well as themselves. This book had me hooked from the get go! I found the world Tetra and Sterling come from very interesting and I can't wait to see if the next book takes us there. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a new fantasy read.

Interview With the Awesome Deanna Dee

Deanna Dee

Preorder Finish Him

This year Deanna contacted me to review one of her books "One Fling to Rule Them All" and I'm so glad I did! It was so different from your normal romance and I absolutely love it! Now she is releasing the last companion novel to her series "Finish Him" and I couldn't be more thrilled. She was kind enough to let me Interview her! Thank you so much Deanna I had so much fun reading your responses! It's always so fun working with you.

1. In your own words, please describe the book.
Finish Him is the third book in my Games of Love series. It’s about two twenty-somethings (Sonya and Jaxon) who find love through gaming and some other stuff. It’s also about Sonya’s relationship with her older sister and her quest to find herself. And there’s some geek references thrown in there for good measure.

2. What genre/genres does your book fall under?
Excellent question. I’m still figuring that out myself. The age of the characters puts it at new adult, but the heat level is low for what new adult romance usually has. I enjoy calling it “geek romance,” but that’s not quite its own thing yet. So if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. J

3. What was your inspiration behind your book?
I read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and loved it. The geek references spoke to me. Combine that with never feeling like I’d found a romance written about “me” (the quirky sidekick), and I wanted to take the geek of RPO and combine it with the romance about the girls usually cast as the brainiac sister or spunky best friend. Ta-da, Finish Him and its siblings were born.

4. So far, what has been the greatest moment in your writing career?
Hitting “publish” on the first book in the series. I’ll never forget the feeling of knowing I’d seen the project through from start to finish and actually put it into the world for people to read.

5. How did you come up with the title of your book?
Finish Him focuses a lot on video games. The phrase” finish him” is one used in a lot of arena fighting games as the signal for one player to finish off another. “Completing” someone is a common thing in romance. “Complete” and “finish” are similar. Geek romance, complete, finish…Finish Him. Done.

6. How long does it take you to finish a novel?
I can write a rough draft in a month if I really motivate myself. The entire process (chapter 1 to publish) is usually between 3 and 6 months—draft, two or three rounds of edits, beta, edits, editor, final edits, format, upload.

7. If there was one thing you could tell your readers, what would it be?
I’d welcome them to my corner of insanity and thank them for stopping in.

8. How can readers connect with you?
I can be found at the following haunts.
Goodreads

Join me at these various locations for book stuff, geek stuff, and romance stuff.

9. What advice do you have for aspiring young authors?
Two things. First, keep writing. You can’t edit a blank page. Second, get some kind of training, whether it’s a workshop or reading how-to books. Lots of people have natural talent, but natural talent only goes so far. Put the extra initiative into your career. It will pay off.

10. Can you tell us something about the writer behind the book?

She likes to talk in the third person. Also, she lives for good times with good people, 65 degree sunny days, and blue skies.

Synopsis:

Evelyn Harper lived the perfect life.
Until she was fired from her job.

After a ridiculous idea devised among friends comes to existence, Evelyn finds herself part owner in a private investigation firm specializing in matters of the heart. Throughout wild antics with her best friends Jonathan and Kate, Evelyn conducts relationship background checks for a wide variety of clients.

Soon it becomes clear that one case has moved beyond professional and Evelyn finds herself fighting an attraction she cannot resist.

Will Evelyn admit her feelings when she uncovers love in the most unexpected of places?

My Thoughts:

The Author was kind enough to provide me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book, where do I even start! I loved it so much I can’t find words to describe my love for all these amazing characters.  After losing her job Evelyn and her best-friend Jon who just came back from the Army decide to start their own private investigation firm with the help of their other best-friend Kate of course; what Evelyn doesn't realize is that being a private investigator is harder than she thought and its proven when she starts falling for one of the guys she is supposed to be investigating Tate.

This book was so fun to read! All the characters where so easy to connect with and you couldn't help loving them. I really enjoyed the P-I concept in this book, it made it really interesting and kept me up to the wee hours of the night. I loved the friendship between Kate, Evelyn and Jon you could tell they really cared for each-other and I really loved that even though Jon and Evelyn hadn't seen each other for years as soon as they were back in each other’s life's it was like he had never gone anywhere. Tate oh, the sweetness that is Tate, I immediately fell in love with him he was so sweet, caring and so freaking HOT! I'm honestly hoping for another book where I can read from Evelyn's and his perspective. As much as this book had me laughing between all the craziness going on between Kate, Jon and Evelyn towards the end I was a mess and had my crying face on. I really enjoyed this book and loved that even though it was short the love between Tate and Evelyn wasn't instant it was something that grew as they spent more time together and got to know each-other. I'm so excited to start Uncovering Desire and reading more about Kate!

Synopsis:

What would you do if everything you thought to be true in your life was a lie?

Sixteen-year-old Angel Seriki must face overwhelming truths about her family when she meets Zander Black, a new student to her high school who is smart, charming and devastatingly beautiful. The revelations he uncovers to her about her family's past changes everything, and as her relationship and feelings for Zander deepen, so do the risks involved. She must now accept her fate and face the true reality of who and what she is. Even if that means giving up everything, including being human.

My Thoughts:

The author was kind enough to send me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was very interesting and different I really enjoyed the concept and all the different creatures that Michelle brought together in this book. Angel is a normal 16 year old until she begins to have nightmares and visions. When the new boy Zander starts to take an interest in her she can feel this strange pull towards him, Zander reveals that she and her family come from another Galaxy from a race called Oleah (who are like centaurs except with the body of a lion). I don't want to give too much away so I will leave it at that.

Like I said at the beginning this book is very interesting I really enjoyed the different concept, I have never read anything like it before; with that said I did have some minor problems with it. First I felt that Angel gave her trust to Zander a little too quickly I would have made him work for it, I mean he had done horrible things to her family and all she had to hear to trust him was I'm not like that anymore, second Julie, Angels best friend was very irritating at points I mean I get it you want your friend to be with Zander, but at some points I felt like she was the one interested in hooking up with him.  There were also some things that kept me turning the pages like the fact that there are vampires, angels, Satans sister and Demons that just intrigued me so much! Also towards the end the book starts getting a lot more action and we start to see more of the Oleahs; which I’m really looking forward to. I am going to continue with the series, I really want to know more about Zander and Angel; I’m also very intrigued to see where the story goes.
