Set in Australia in the year 2031, this story is science-fiction comedy at its best.

When Dave, a hopeless but lovable 34 year old, meets Alexandra, the girl of his dreams, he feels as though his luck has finally changed. But due to his ineptness with technology, he tragically loses contact with her.

Meanwhile, the lust for supremacy of two powerful Americans ignites a bitter feud. Their fight reaches around the globe and soon entwines not only Dave and Alexandra but also a superstar football player nicknamed ‘God’.

Their final meeting precipitates an event that no-one saw coming.

My Thoughts:

The author was kind enough to provide me with an E-copy in exchange for an honest review.  I found this book very enjoyable. It was a very fun and quick read.

After our main character Dave misses the first job interview, he decides to go to his favorite pub to have a few beers. That is where he meets Alexandra, they hit it off and soon Dave knows that she is the love of his life; unfortunately because of Dave's lack of knowledge in new technology he loses her number and loses all contact with her. While all this is happening in Australia, two very powerful American business men are having a feud over who gets the number one spot in TV ratings. What Dave doesn't know is that this two men are about to play a major role in his life.

I found this book very funny and interesting.  The book is told in various perspectives, which made the book a faster and more enjoyable read. I also liked how well developed the characters were, it made them very likable; I especially liked our main character Dave he was very warm hearted. The book had several twist that I wasn't expecting the author really surprised me. In short this book is a very quick, funny, quirky sci-fi/dystopian that everyone should pick up at one point in their lives.

Captain Rum, as told in McAdam’s own words through his journal, is a tale of discovery, despair and delight. It will keep you enthralled through many a stormy night.

My Thoughts:

The author was kind enough to provide me with a E-copy in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book; it is really different from what I usually read.

This wonderful story is centered on a journal an Oxford Professor finds in which Captain McAdam (Captain Rum) has written his sea adventure in the period 1821.  McAdam decided to go to sea in search for adventure and to escape the demons that haunt him in London. Through his adventures he discovers new lands and species that have only been discovered once before him, in one of the islands he runs into the natives who teach him how to deal with the demons he has been carrying for so long.

This book was such a refreshing and different read for me. I loved the author's world building and the way he conveyed the period, it was all very well written. I also grew very fond of our captain and his struggles and heartache were very real. As I was reading I felt like I was there right next to the captain, and I love when books do that. I recommend this book to all the historical fiction lovers out there it is truly a wondrous adventure that everyone should be a part of.
